Second Suspect Charged In Connection To Murder Of 19-Year-Old Long Island Man

A second suspect has been charged with murder after human remains were found near a busy Long Island roadway last summer.

Nassau County Police say the discovery was made around 9 a.m.on Tuesday, July 20 on the Meadowbrook Parkway in Uniondale.

According to detectives, the skeletal remains of a human body were located in a wooded area on the west side of the parkway. The victim was later identified as Gerson E. Pineda, age 19, of Hempstead.

In September, Nassau County Police announced Jeustin David Maldonado, age 22, of Uniondale has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. 

On Wednesday, Jan. 26, police announced the arrest of a second suspect in connection with the case: 27-year-old Jose Quintanilla-Cruz, of Hempstead. 

He's also been charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
